Wrong or Missing Word

In the early stages of the writing process, you may write quickly to capture all of your ideas. Frequent misspellings and typos are expected. When you begin to revise, edit, and proofread your essay, read carefully to spot any words that you have used incorrectly or words that you have left out.

One of the most frequent errors is using "the" instead of "they."

The decided to talk to the administration about the parking problem.

The writer most likely intended to write the following:

They decided to talk to the administration about the parking problem.

Alternatively, you may have meant to use "the" but left out the noun that should follow the article "the."

The student body president and vice president decided to talk to the administration about the parking problem.

These errors are easy to make and easy to correct. Proofread your sentences carefully.
